 Getting Started

1. Set your targets

  • Reduce inventory cost by EUR M by moving N% of your suppliers to a Supplier Managed Inventory process - SMI.
  • Reduce risk of scrap material and out of stock by increasing visibility across all teams in the organisation.
  • Measure the performance of suppliers, identify weak spots, and correct them.
  • Integrate an acquired company into your sales and supply processes.

2. Select your processes (can be more than one)

Process Description Data (Example)
Make to Order Buyer manages stock levels and targets. Seller issues a PO and the suppliers delivers. PO, Forecast, shipments, goods receipts.
SMI with your POs The supplier is responsible for keeping stock within certain boundaries. However, the buyer still issues a Purchase Order before the supplier can ship and invoice you. PO, Forecast, Buyer inventory, supplier inventory, Production Plan, call-offs, shipments, goods receipts.
SMI with Requisitions The supplier is responsible for keeping stock within certain boundaries, and issues Requisitions to the buyer, who then generates a PO. PO, Forecast, Buyer inventory, supplier inventory, requisitions, shipments, goods receipts.
SMI with Scheduling Agreement The supplier is responsible for keeping stock within certain boundaries, and issues an intention to ship. Forecast, Buyer inventory, supplier inventory, request to ship, shipments, goods receipts.
SMI with self generated PO The supplier is responsible for keeping stock within certain boundaries. Supplier generates a PO automatically via a PO request. Forecast, buyer inventory, supplier inventory, PO request, PO, shipments, goods receipts.

3. Configure a Pilot

  • Configure your processes on SUMI. Define what information you want to share with your suppliers (Forecast, stock, goods receipts) and the supplier information you find is vital (their stock levels, production plans, shipments etc).
  • Then define who should do what and when. what should be done and when. For example, extract stock and forecast automatically daily. Enter supplier stock on Mondays etc.

4. Activate and Measure

  • Train users. Since SUMI is easy to use, this can be done virtually.
  • Run a pilot for three months. Measure the outcome and observe the result.
